History

The Shepherd's Center of North Dallas (SCND) was founded in 1994. SCND is part of Shepherd's Centers of America, a national organization begun in 1972 by Dr. Elbert Cole and a coalition of twenty-five churches and synagogues in Kansas City, Missouri. People of all faiths work together in Shepherd's Centers to help older adults sustain and celebrate life.

Shepherd's Closet

Several years ago, Mae Seeley and several of our members at the Shepherd's Center of North Dallas answered the call for tutors needed at a local elementary school school in West Dallas near Love Field.

Soon after, it became apparent that many of these elementary children also needed warm clothing. Ms. Seeley’s personal project of going to Goodwill and Salvation Army stores to find needed jackets soon expanded to include supplementing required uniforms for some students. We appreciate Albertson's for its Community Partners Program that helps us with this worthy undertaking.
